No. 22 Seahouses
Seahouses is a small fishing town on the Northumbrian coast of the UK. It is also the gateway to the Farne Islands, one of the most important seabird colonies in the UK. The islands boast 23 species of breeding birds including around 37,000 pairs of puffins and a large grey seal colony. There were even Eider ducks enjoying the beach.
Given that the town benefits heavily from visitors who are interested in the health of birds and the sea it is more than disappointing to sea the state of the beach and the fishing piers. The first photo above shows lobster pots and plastic fish boxes stacked on the pier. If you look closely you can see thousands of pieces of plastic on the ground. All of this is just waiting to enter the ocean and pollute the very fish and seabirds that this community benefits from. A walk along the beach reveal all the usual plastic debris, bottle tops, disposable lighters, packaging, and fishing debris.
