No. 15 Porto Das Barcas

This was probably once a small pebble beach but now has a slipway and breakwaters and is used by a small local fishing fleet. This is included here because of the complete lack of concern by the fishermen here for the environment. An area at the side of the slipway is used as a dumping ground for all sorts of plastics, including bottles, polystyrene floats, nylon rope and monofilament nets. This area is open to the sea and looks like a key potential source of fishing related debris that we saw on beaches along this coast. Very frustrating when such pollution is totally avoidable. The use of polystyrene for fishing floats should be discouraged. There are lots pf pieces of polystyrene all over the beaches of this coast.
