No. 9 Bacau
This is the beach that really got us thinking! An absolutely stunning setting at the base of a steep forested slope, this is the classic coral beach. Traditional "dug out" fishing boats lie on the beach and the sea is a beautiful blue. But, mixed with the coral fragments on the beach are thousands of pieces of plastic. Bottles, bottle tops, shoes, fishing gear, packaging and lots of plastic chips. There is no formal refuse collection here. The plastic just washes down from the streets to the beaches and into the ocean. Plastic bottles are used as fishing floats. Old monofilament fishing nets are just left to entangle wildlife. Something has to change.
